A Reminder for the Woman Whose Life Doesn’t Look Like the “Soft Girl Christian” Aesthetic

Can I encourage you for a moment?

Just because your life doesn’t look like hers doesn’t mean you’re behind.

I think there are a lot of women who need to hear that.

Every day, we’re scrolling past videos of beautiful morning routines, spotless apartments, iced coffees, Pilates classes, work-from-home schedules, successful businesses, and peaceful, aesthetically pleasing lives.

And if that’s your reality, that’s wonderful.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying beautiful things, creating a peaceful home, or sharing the blessings God has given you.

But for many women, life looks different.

Some women wake up before the sun because they have children to get ready for school.

Some are rushing out the door to make it to work on time.

Some are living paycheck to paycheck.

Some are carrying responsibilities that feel heavier than they can bear.

Some are spending time with Jesus in their car on their lunch break because that’s the only quiet moment they have all day.

Some are folding laundry while listening to a sermon.

Some are praying through tears while trying to hold everything together.

And somewhere along the way, social media has convinced many women that if their life doesn’t look beautiful, peaceful, and perfectly curated, they’re somehow doing something wrong.

But that’s simply not true.

One of the enemy’s favorite tactics is comparison.

Not because he needs to destroy your life, but because he wants to distract you from it.

The moment you start measuring your life against someone else’s, you stop seeing what God is doing in your own.

You begin questioning things you never questioned before.

You start feeling inadequate.

You start feeling behind.

You start wondering why everyone else seems to be moving forward while you’re still waiting, still praying, still working, still believing.

But Scripture tells us:

“When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.” — 2 Corinthians 10:12

Comparison is not wisdom.

Comparison is a thief.

It steals joy.

It steals gratitude.

It steals contentment.

And eventually, it blinds us to the faithfulness of God in our own lives.

The truth is, social media often shows us the highlight reel, not the whole story.

We see the answered prayers.

We see the breakthrough.

We see the beautiful moments.

But we rarely see the struggle, the waiting, the grief, the setbacks, the disappointments, or the years of perseverance that came before them.

And because of that, we begin believing the lie that a beautiful life equals a blessed life.

But God never promised us a picture-perfect life.

Jesus said:

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33

Notice He didn’t say you might have trouble.

He said you will.

Following Jesus was never a promise that life would always be easy.

It was a promise that we would never walk through it alone.

God is not only present in the beautiful seasons.

He is present in the messy ones too.

He is present in the woman sipping coffee on the balcony overlooking the ocean.

And He is present in the woman crying in her car after a long day of work.

He is present in the entrepreneur running a thriving business.

And He is present in the single mother trying to make ends meet.

He is present in the answered prayer.

And He is present in the waiting.

The same God who is present in her life is present in yours.

Some of the strongest women of faith aren’t living what social media would call a “soft life.”

They’re persevering.

They’re working hard.

They’re raising children.

They’re carrying responsibilities.

They’re walking through trials.

And they’re choosing to trust God anyway.

I think Heaven calls that beautiful.

Because God has never measured our worth by our aesthetics.

He has never been impressed by our apartments, our routines, our income, our followers, or how perfectly our lives appear on a screen.

He’s after something much deeper.

Faithfulness.

A heart that continues to seek Him in every season.

A woman who keeps showing up.

A woman who keeps praying.

A woman who keeps trusting.

A woman who keeps following Jesus, even when life doesn’t look the way she thought it would.

So if you’ve been feeling discouraged because your life doesn’t look like the videos on social media, let this be your reminder:

You are not behind.

You are not less than.

You are not forgotten.

Her path is her path.

Your path is your path.

And God is not comparing the two.

The same God who is present in the beautiful seasons is present in the difficult ones.

The same God who is present in the abundance is present in the struggle.

The same God who is present in her story is present in yours.

So stop measuring your life against a standard God never gave you.

Instead, thank Him for the story He’s writing—even if it looks different than you expected.

Because your life doesn’t need to look beautiful to be deeply blessed.

And just because your life doesn’t look like hers doesn’t mean you’re behind.

🤍

Reflection

Have you been measuring your life against someone else’s season?

Take a moment today to thank God for the story He’s writing in your own life and ask Him to help you see it through His eyes instead of through the lens of comparison.

“Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else.” — Galatians 6:4
